How a CarJab lease price is added up
A personal lease total is the initial rental, then one monthly payment fewer than the contract length. Nine months up front on a 24-month contract is written 9+23. It is not 24 times the monthly price.
What is CarJab?
CarJab lists personal contract hire, PCP and HP quotes from UK dealers in one place. Prices are copied from the dealer page. CarJab is not a lender and does not sell the car.
How is a personal lease total calculated?
The initial rental is several monthly payments taken up front, then you pay one fewer monthly payment than the contract length. A 24-month contract with 9 months up front is 9+23: the lump sum, then 23 monthly payments. The total is not the monthly price times 24, and it is not the lump sum plus 24 monthly payments.
Is the cheapest monthly payment the cheapest deal?
No. A low monthly price with 12 months up front can cost more over the contract than a higher monthly price with 1 month up front. Compare the total: initial rental plus the remaining monthly payments.
What is the difference between lease, PCP and HP?
A lease (personal contract hire) is a rental. You hand the car back. PCP is a purchase with a large optional final payment if you want to own the car. HP is a purchase paid in monthly instalments, and you own the car at the end. Do not compare a lease monthly price with a PCP monthly price as if they were the same product.
Where do the figures come from?
From the dealer’s own quote: monthly payment, initial rental or deposit, term and annual mileage. Business prices that exclude VAT are not listed as personal deals.
